The Proud Legacy

Bandaranayake Central College - Veyangoda

Establishment & History

Bandaranayake Central College proudly holds a distinguished place in Sri Lankan history. In the 1940s, Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara introduced the Central College concept under the Free Education system. Standing proudly as the third Central College established in Sri Lanka, it broke the colonial two-tier system, allowing every student to shine regardless of their background.

On 6th January 1941, the college was formed by merging Veyangoda Swabasha Patashalawa and Paththalagedara School. While it started in Veyangoda town, it found its permanent home in Maligathanna Watta, where the first building was opened by Mr. D. S. Senanayake on 3rd September 1951.
